Easy home remedies for heartburn

Heartburn is caused by acid reflux in the body. When acid produced by the stomach during digestions moves back to the food pipe, acid reflux occurs. The triggers of heartburn differ for different people. However, there are certain common causes that might lead to acid reflux causing heartburn. For instance, you have a meal that high on fats and unhealthy oil, you may experience heartburn.

Occasional occurrences of heartburn can be easily treated with home remedies. However, if you have a prolong case of heartburn, you are advised to consult a medical practitioner. This is because heartburn can be a symptom of something more alarming.

Lemon juice: Lemon juice with warm water and honey works wonders for heartburn. However, it is more of a preventive measure than a remedy. Make it habit to have this drink regular every morning. Drink it on empty stomach. This helps the body to balance the acid levels in a natural way. Also, warm water and honey aids in digestion.

Apple cider vinegar: Treat your acid reflux with more acid. This sound like trouble, however, this is quite an effective remedy for heartburn. You can have unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar with water. Drink this solution every 5 minutes until you feel relieved. Or you can mix it with tea and honey and sip on it.

Chew gum: Chewing gum produces excess saliva. This aids in reducing acid reflux and helps in reducing heartburn. Keep some chewing gum handy if you tend to suffer from the occasional indigestion that may cause heartburn

Ginger-root tea: Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that helps in relieving discomfort caused by heartburn. Also, it regulates the flow of gastric juices and absorbs excess acid produced during the process of digestion. Sip on some ginger-root tea to get relief from heartburn.

Raw almonds: Raw almonds (not the roasted salted ones) are high in alkaline content. This alkaline reacts with the acid causing heartburn and neutralizes it. Eating a handful of almonds will also balance the pH lvel of your body along with providing you with necessary calcium.

In addition to these instant remedies for heartburn, you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle so that you do not suffer from constant pangs of acid reflux. Try eating a balance meal that is not greasy. Avoid sleeping or lying down immediately after a meal. Smoking is one of the main triggers of heartburn: it is best to quit this habit.
